About

My name is Jonathan Morris – welcome to my website.

I started fishing at a young age in the River Wye and other streams around Builth Wells where I was born.

Initially it was worm fishing for trout and I was very excited when my mother bought me a fly fishing kit on my 8th birthday.  This was when I decided that I was going to be a fly fisherman.

My passion for fishing has led me to my present position as a full time Guide and Instructor in Dumfries on the Rivers Nith and Annan where I can guide and teach anglers of all abilities to improve their skills.  I recommend guiding or tuition is limited to two people to enable the highest level of attention but depending on the need of the client I can arrange additional help for taster days, corporate days and group tuition when required.

I am an Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor (AAPGAI) .  This is the premier qualification in the UK and demands high standards of both casting and teaching to achieve.  I hold an advanced level in Double Hand, Single Hand and a Masters in Fly Dressing.  I am in possession of a first aid certificate and I am DBS (formally CRB) checked.

I have been fortunate to enjoy fishing in Russia and Norway for salmon, Argentina for sea trout and New Zealand for brown and rainbow trout.  I regularly fish the Ness, the Spey and the Tay in Scotland and also act as one of the team of instuctors running courses on the Tay.

I run Single and Double Hand courses with my good friend Glyn Freeman.   These can be found on my Courses Page https://flyfishtheborders.com/courses

I look forward to introducing you to or helping you to enjoy this wonderful pastime.
